History of the Great Mosque of Karimum

Karimun Great Mosque

the construction of the Great Mosque of Karimun began in 2003. The construction process began with the first stone placement ceremony carried out by the Regent of Karimun, namely, Drs. HM Sani. The process of placing the first stone was visited by the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Said Agil Siraj, and was seen directly by 6 ambassadors from various countries such as Iran, Yemen, Morocco, Sudan, Lebanon, and Palestine. The Karimun Great Mosque was awarded as an outstanding mosque in the Riau Islands Province in 2015.

In addition, this mosque received an award as a Provincial-level Pilot Mosque in 2015. By obtaining a profile as a provincial-level Pilot Mosque, in the end, this mosque also participated in the National-level Pilot Mosque selection competition.

Karimum Great Mosque Architecture

The Great Mosque of Karimun has the form of a rectangular floor plan. There is a super large dome above the main room in Green color and decorated with several mosaics around it. At the top, there is an ornament written "Allah". At the special entrance, there are 2 small windows on the right and left of the reddish color and 1 large window at the top.

The walls on the right and left sides are wrapped in yellow. The side of the large courtyard is planted with several palm trees to make the situation shadier. Generally, this page is used as an additional place for prayer if the mosque does not fit several congregations. The side of the floor of the mosque is all reddish in color from the red carpet that covers every aspect of the floor of the mosque.

On the front, there is a unique mihrab decorated with the characteristics of the Karimun Islands. Inside, there is a minimalist balcony with several loudspeakers placed inside and above the mihrab. On the right and left sides, there are 2 small rooms for placing the Qur'an and other tools.
